My inlaws live in evreux and for how many times i've been here and make friends of their neighbor it doesn't come to my mind about the history of this beautiful place.Now i will share some history of EVREUX.The city is on the Iton river see the picture above.Based on count of evreux in Late Antiquity, the town, attested in the fourth century CE, was named Mediolanum Aulercorum, "the central town of the Aulerci", the Gallic tribe that then inhabited the area. Mediolanum was a small regional center of Roman province of Gallia Lugdunensis.
The modern city name originates from the gallic tribe of Eburovices (literally Those who overcome by the yew?) (from Gaulish eburo-) Supposedly, a ghost named "Gobelin" haunted Évreux in the twelfth century. This gave way to the formation of the modern English word "Goblin" (for which the French is "Gobelin").Very interesting right?Now i will try to check and read the places each time we visit.

i wouldn't want to live in Evreux during the 12th century... those goblins can be nasty sometimes and i don't want to be near them when they are in a bad mood *winks*...
